Import steel to Turkey in January grew by almost 20%

The Association of manufacturers of metallurgical products in Turkey DCUD reported the growth of steel imports into the country in January 2013 to 1 million 200 thousand tons, which is 19.1% more than in January 2012.

The cost of steel imports increased by 6.9% and reached $ 985 million. Accordingly, the average price of iron imported by the Turks was $ 850/ton, which is cheaper than $ 947/ton in January 2012.

At the same time, the import of steel workpiece to Turkey decreased by 10.4% amounting to 209 thousand tons, but the supply of slabs increased sharply.

In the first month of this year, Türkiye imported 580 thousand 483 tons of flat rental (+3.2%) and 122 thousand tons of long metal rolling (+24.1%).
