Eurofer continues to rebel against reducing greenhouse gas emissions

"Due to the lack of economically effective technologies for reducing emissions, the metallurgical sector of industry will not be able to achieve the goal. Eurofer welcomes the European Commission initiative to establish clear rules of the game for several decades ahead, as this will be of great importance for making investment decisions in the industry. The European Association of Manufacturers of Steel also welcomes the commission’s readiness to consider the consequences of the ongoing economic crisis, as well as the consequences of a serious increase in energy prices, in terms of the competitiveness of the European metallurgical industry.

“What really needs is to take measures to reduce the difference in average energy prices for the EU and its main competitors,” Moffat emphasized. "The growing expenses of a political nature in the field of climate are today become the main reason for the increase in energy prices in Europe."

Eurofer advocates the speedy start of the development of shale gas deposits in the European Union, since the availability of energy resources today is of paramount importance for the entire European industry. “We must learn from this situation and understand one very important thing - the de -industrialization of Europe has become an objective reality and the current policy in the field of climate and energy resources plays a paramount role,” said Gordon Moffat.
