According to the European Eurostat statistics department, last year 27 EU members set a new record for the export of scrap metal outside the European Union. In 2012, Europe sold 19 million 200 thousand tons of scrap metal totaling 6 billion 800 million euros, which is 2.2% more than in 2011.
The UK again turned out to be the largest exporter of scrap among the European Union countries, shipping "to the side" of more than 5 million 200 thousand tons of steel waste.
Last year, the main client of all 27 EU countries was Türkiye, into which more than 11 million tons of metal scrap in the amount of 3 billion 300 million euros or more than 58% of all scrap metal left and sailed away.
In turn, the import of scrap metal in the EU in 2012 decreased by 8% and amounted to 3 million 5410 thousand tons.
