In January - March 2013, 17 million 200 thousand tons of steel were melted on the territory of the Russian Federation, which is 4.6 percent less than in the same period in 2012. At the same time, coal mining decreased by 0.7 percent -to 85 million 900 thousand tons and coke production fell by another 2.7 percent. This is stated in the message of Rosstat.
In the first quarter of 2013, Russian metallurgical companies produced 13 million 600 thousand tons of metal rolling, which is 2.8 percent less than in the first three months of 2012. Including the production of steel pipes increased by 1.9 percent and amounted to 2 million 300 thousand tons. The production of cast iron slightly decreased to 12 million 500 thousand tons (-0.8 percent).
