Today in New Delhi, the Supreme Court of India canceled the decision of the lower court on the ban on the South Korean Metallurgical Company Posco to obtain iron ore and produce steel in India. Thus, the company has become one more step closer to the implementation of the largest project worth more than $ 12 billion.
The fourth in the world, the manufacturer waited eight years of execution of all necessary documents and permits for the construction of a new metallurgical plant with a capacity of 12 million tons per year.
The ambitious plans of Korean businessmen are faced with a lot of obstacles, including the fierce resistance of the residents of the Odisha state, on the territory of which the metallurgical complex will be erected and there are iron ore deposits.
“The court decision is very positive for Posco, since the Central Government of India is interested in this project,” says Arra Rakkesh, the head of the analytical department of Macquarie Capital Securities. "There is no doubt that without access to the source of iron ore raw materials, this project would not have been started at all."
The company signed an agreement with the Odisha authorities in June 2005. The contract provides for the construction of a metallurgical plant for 4004 Ages of the Earth. Posco needs at least 2700 acres to start the first stage of the project. At the same time, the company included the purchase detergents for industry . However, so far the companies have managed to obtain only 1,700 lands of land.
Posco says that if they receive the necessary land this year, then the first stage of construction will end somewhere in 2018. In the case of the final sale of the planned production, the volume of production steel will reach 12 million tons per year, which will be more than 16 percent of the annual steel smelting in India. At the same time, the total amount of metallurgical capacities in the country will increase to 76 million 700 thousand tons.
After eight years of waiting, the South Korean Mining and Metallurgical Company Posco received all the necessary permits for the construction of a missile defense system in India
