Sumitomo Metal Mining Co Ltd decided to build an experienced metallurgical plant to restore chromium from nickel ore, together with Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC), having redeemed the shares of a subsidiary of a subsidiary located on the island of Palavan in the Philippines. A modernized enterprise will begin its work in September 2013.
Using the acid leaching technologies under pressure, Sumitomo will extract chromium from nickel ores, chromites. If earlier only nickel and cobalt were restored from the ore and the rest went into the dumps, then the latest developments of Sumitomo engineers using the SVS-100 stand will allow chromitis to industrial volumes.
Today, the Sumitomo and CBNC pilot project have been successfully implemented on the island of Palavan, which will reach a design capacity of 10 thousand tons of chromium per year before the end of this year. The plans of Japanese businessmen to launch in the fall of this year the second plant on the island of Mindanao for the production of nickel and cobalt according to the acid leaching technology under pressure.
