According to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine in May 2013, domestic miners mined 5 million 835 thousand 900 tons of coal, which is 12.6 percent less than in the previous month. In an annual comparison with May 2012, coal mining in Ukraine decreased by 18.7 percent or 1 million 393 thousand 900 tons.

The structure of coal mining in May 2013 in relation to the same period last year is as follows:

-energy coal 4 million 65 thousand 400 tons (-19.4 percent (-978 thousand 400 tons);
-coke coal 1 million 770 thousand 500 tons (-16.9 percent (-360 thousand 900 tons).

For five months of 2013, Ukrainian coal industries mined 33 million 824 thousand 800 tons of total coal, which is 7.2 percent less than in January - May 2012. Including energy coals, 23 million 807 thousand 900 tons were obtained, and the cokes are 10 million 16 thousand 900 tons.

As reported, the Ukrainian authorities limited the import of coking coals by introducing supplies of supplies to the country. The distribution of quotas is carried out by a specially created interagency commission, which issued permits to import coke until the end of summer. In total, 10 million 200 thousand of coal, including 2 million 500 thousand tons of coke suitable for use in the technology of dusting dust fuel, are allowed to import 10 million to the end of 2013.
