Posco takes 5th place in the ranking of global manufacturers in 2012

Posco, the largest steel company of South Korea, became the fifth largest manufacturer of raw steel in the world for the period 2012, descending one step compared to a year earlier. According to data published by World Steel Association, Arcelormittal (India), it retained its leading position in the ranking, releasing 93 million 600 thousand tons of raw steel in 2012, and then Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (Japan) with 47 million 900 thousand tons for the same period.

The World Steel Association said that Posco has reached 39 million 900 thousand tons last year in Posco, compared with 39 million 100 thousand tons in 2011. The Posco fall in the ranking of global manufacturers of steel in 2012 is explained by the merger of the Nippon Steel Corporation and Sumitomo Metal Corporation in October last year.

The company formed after the merger bears the name Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation. The fusion process contributed to the growth of Nippon Steel in the ranking of steel manufacturers, which allowed it to move to second place from the 6th, as a result of which the rating of Posco sank to one step. The Hyundai Steel Company, which is the second steel company of South Korea, rose in the rating list of 4 points until the 16th in 2012, with the production of 17 million 100 thousand tons, compared with 16 million 300 thousand tons in 2011.
