The European commission on June 11, 2013 presented a set of measures and recommendations for the revival of the steel industry of Europe. "A plan for intensifying the competitiveness and sustainability of steel industry in Europe" (Action Plan for a Competitive and Sustainable Steel Industry in Europe), presented yesterday by the EC Commissioner Antonio Tayani, became the first rescue circle for European metallurgists after the "Plan Davignon "from 1977.
The measures provided for by the Tayani plan are aimed at the introduction of innovation, at the liberalization of the trade in metals and rental, as well as at reducing the costs of metallurgical industries for energy carriers, the share of which has recently reached 40 percent of all operating costs. The plan is also aimed at facilitating social costs of restructuring the industry associated with the loss of jobs.
In the largest metallurgical company in the world, Arselormital with approval greeted the initiatives of the European Commission and consider the Tayan plan as the first important step to support the restoration of the steel industry in Europe. “Nevertheless, it is necessary to continue the dialogue and the real introduction of the proposed measures. We hope that all interested parties, including regional governments and trade unions will contribute to the constructive implementation of all the provisions of the plan,” said the General Director of Flat Carbon Europe and a member of the Arselormital Management Mr. Robrecht Himpe.
The European Association of Manufacturers has become Eurofer welcomes the plan for the revival of the steel industry proposed by the European Commission, Mr. Gordon Moffat, Director General of Eurofer, said today. "It is very pleasant to see that the commission considered it important for the EU industrial and economic base to have a strong and competitive metallurgical sector. The action plan is a good starting point, but there is still a lot of work that should be done to implement it," he said.
