The Mariupol City Council estimated that the Metinvest group includes the largest metco -building of Ukraine MMK named after Ilyich and Azovstal (both city of Mariupol) fulfilled its environmental obligations by 172 percent. This was stated by the deputy mayor of Mariupol Vladimir Klimenko, the corporate publication of the Ilyich factory Gazeta Ilychevets reports.
“We were convinced that the four -sided agreement between the City Council, the Metinvest group, metallurgical plants, as well as our ecological program, are fully and completely. Moreover, last year we calculated that Metinvest fulfilled his obligations with more than 172 percent, ”the Ilyichevets quoted the Mariupol official.
Recall that recently, representatives of the public were allowed to the territory of metallurgical plants of the city who noted serious improvements in relation to metallurgists to protect the environment and compliance with environmental legislation.
“We saw that we had achieved something in terms of environmental protection, and I cannot admit it. I saw the plants 10 years ago and I know that at that time they did not invest in the environment as much as they invest now. The situation has become better at 30 percent ... In addition, today I have confidence that the planned programs will continue to be implemented, ”said the Mariupol activist Anastasia Bogdanovich.
The specific figures proving a decrease in the emissions were led by the chief specialist of the Ecology Department of the Mariupol City Council olga Elkin: in 2011, emissions were at the level of 382 thousand tons, in 2012 -330 thousand tons (-13 percent), and for 2013 no more than 305 thousand tons (-7.5 percent) are predicted.
Note that the production of steel in 2012 on the Azovstal was reduced by 17.7 percent, and at the Ilyich’s fleet, the production of steel fell by more than 16 percent. At the same time, only for the first quarter of 2013, the enterprises of the Metinvest group reduced the smelting of steel 6 percent relative to the same period last year and the market does not anticipate any special movements to increase the demand for metal rolling.
