Chinese imports causes serious damage to Mexican metallurgy

According to the Mexican Chamber of the Metallurgical Industry (Canacero), the increase in imports of steel from China using an unscrupulous trade practice, causes serious damage to the Mexican steel sector. The Cancero statement says that China exported 143,219 tons of metal products to Mexico during the first three months of 2013. This is 18.4 percent more than in the same period last year, when Chinese imports amounted to 120,934 tons.

The Mexican Chamber of the Metallurgical Industry said that while the Mexican steel industry does not receive state subsidies, import tariffs are almost zero. And the country pursues a free trade policy. While China is a zone closed by the economy, in which subsidies and dumping policies work and paradoxical import duties are supported by more than 15 percent.

In response to the threat of unscrupulous trading practice of steel manufacturers and cement silage and silos equipment require the Mexican government to use the "enhanced" vigilance and control system to prevent such a situation in the future. Manufacturers require the authorities of the introduction of taxes, fines and other fees that must be paid for the import of steel into the country.

The authorities and metallurgical companies have already begun to cooperate in order to start an anti -dumping investigation, primarily in relation to countries with which Mexico has no trade agreements. The government has already begun three anti -dumping investigations related to the import of a galvanized grid from China, including in relation to one case in June.
