According to the results of the investigation of complaints from Tamsa, the Mexican branch of the Tenaris steel corporation, Mexico installed import duties on seamless steel pipes from China.
The tariff is set at the level of $ 1252 per ton and will not exceed 56 percent of the customs price, the Mexican Ministry of Trade said today. The import of products at prices below markets is damaged by the national industry, the statement emphasizes.
Tamsa filed a complaint at the end of September 2012, referring to "significant volumes of imports of seamless pipes from China, which was realized at prices below the market."
The Mexican government has expressed serious concern with a huge trade deficit with China, caused by a significant influx of industrial goods. Mexico received more than 15 percent of the total imports from China, sending more than $ 57 billion to the Celestial Empire, while the volume of exports to this country amounted to less than 5 billion 700 million dollars.
In addition, Mexico and China are direct competitors in the US market, supplying similar industrial goods there.
