Metallurgical companies in Europe are looking forward to the death of the Italian Ilva plant in Taranto - Trade Unions

The remaining metallurgical companies in Europe are only waiting for the death of factories in Pimbino and Taranto to steal their customers, says Mirko Lami, a representative of trade unions in Pimbino.

The leaders of the trade unions turned this week to the Italian government with the demands to create an alliance of the two largest metallurgical plants in the country to prevent their closure.

The Italian metallurgical industry, the second in terms of production capacities after Germany, was badly damaged by a decrease in demand for steel. The production of steel in Italy was reduced by more than 11 percent compared to last year.

“Only in -depth integration of the production of the largest Italian market players began to ensure a way out of this situation. A separate missile system will not be able to escape,” said Gianni Venturi, the national coordinator of the CGIL FIOM united union.

On ILVA in Taranto and Lucchini in Pimbino, special administration modes introduced by the Italian government are working today. The main goal of the measures taken is the preservation of companies and the prevention of mass contractions.

Italian trade union bosses proposed organizing the supply of steel semi -finished products with Lucchini
At ILVA at that time, until the last plant, work on the modernization of steeling equipment will not be carried out. According to the leaders of the trade union, such a decision will increase production in Pioibino and support the production of rental in Taranto.

The Italian government admits that from a technical point of view, the idea of the trade union is quite feasible. However, there they strongly doubt the economic validity of such a proposal, since the demand for steel is at a low level and continues to fall, and an increase in production on ILVA can only increase the already high proposal.
