According to the results of the first half of 2013, the import of steel scrap into Ukraine increased almost one and a half times: about 99.5 thousand tons of raw materials were received about Ukrainian steel producers, which is 41 thousand tons more than the indicator of the same period of the previous year.
The key importer of the material in Ukraine remains Metinvest-resource: for the Enakievsky MZ and MMK named after Ilyich acquired a total of more than 62 thousand tons of raw materials. According to preliminary estimates, this year the supply of foreign steel scrap to the holding enterprises can reach 150-155 thousand tons.
Given the increasing deficit of raw materials in the domestic market of Ukraine, the remaining steel manufacturers were also forced to turn to foreign suppliers of steel scrap. Thus, the Keramet company, which ensures metallurgical assets of the ISD Corporation, acquired 9.5 thousand tons of imported material during the reporting period, the Dnepropetrovsk Tutormet for the Interpipetal plant - 9.5 thousand. tons, “Arselor -Mittal Kryvyi Rih” - 7.5 thousand tons.
According to preliminary data, in July, Arselormittal Kryvyi Rih will increase the purchases of steel scrap by 10 thousand tons, up to 53 thousand tons. Nevertheless, it will not be possible to bring the volume of supplies of raw materials in accordance with the plan - the shortage will be about 16 thousand tons. Warehouses at the enterprise in a month have not changed much and are in the range of 48-50 thousand tons.
The main supplier of scrap metal is Kazakhstan: regarding January-June 2012, shipments increased by more than 2.5 times (about 94.5 thousand tons) and make up almost 95 percent of the total. Recall that in connection with the introduction of 5 percent of import duties for scrap and waste of ferrous metals in January 2013, importers were forced to postpone the implementation of plans for the supply of raw materials from the eastern
Europe, due to the too high cost of goods. In fact, the duty -free import of the material remains possible only from the countries ratified the agreement on the creation of the free trade zone in the CIS, that is, from Kazakhstan and Russia. However, the level of quotations for Russian exporters is too high for Ukrainian consumers.
Nevertheless, the prospects for the development of the situation in the domestic scrap market allow in 2013 to predict an increase in the total import of imports by almost 2 times, to 190-200 thousand tons.
Ukraine: according to the results of the first half of the lam, the import of scrap has increased significantly
