The Aço Brasil Institute revised its forecast for the production of steel in Brazil for 2013 due to the weak growth of local demand. The steel smelting is expected here at the level of 34 million 500 thousand tons, a slightly more level of 2012.
In 2013, Brazilian steel exports will be reduced by 13 percent, to 8 million 500 thousand tons, imports will reach 3 million 200 thousand tons.
The growth of sales in the domestic market for Brazil’s metal products will be, according to Aço Brasil, 5.3 percent and reach 22 million 800 thousand tons. At the same time, domestic consumption will increase by 3.2 percent - to 26 million tons.
According to the analysis of the Aço Brasil, the dollarization of Brazil’s metallurgy led not only to compensation for prices for imports of metal rolling, but also to the fact that the growing course increases the cost of metallurgists, since raw materials and energy prices are calculated in dollars.
