NSSMC displays super -strength wheels for external markets for trains

The low demand for wheels for trains in Japan forces its only wheel manufacturer, Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation, and turn their eyes to foreign markets. A company producing wheels for consumers of all types of railways in Japan, including Sinkansen Sincans Super -Speed ​​Passenger Express, has the intentions to supply new generation wheels to mining companies in resources, such as Australia and Brazil.

Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal sees prospects for new products in the mining sector due to jumps in resource prices. Recently developed wheels that are made from more durable steels are the result of a new processing method. They can withstand 2.5 times a larger load compared to standard wheels, or 35 tons on the shaft and, moreover, are more resistant to wear.

Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal in 2011 in the United States acquired the production of Standard Steel and currently produces 10 percent of the annual sales of wheels in the world, which is 5 million wheels. In the spring of 2013, the manufacturer set out 1000 recently developed wheels for a railway company in the United States. NSSMC is going to invest about 5 billion JPY in its new acquisition in the United States and build a new factory here, which will be similar to its plant in Japan for the production of new generation wheels.
