Oskol plant introduced a wastewater treatment unit

The Oskol electrometallurgical plant (OEMK), which is part of the Metalloinvest company, put into operation a modernized installation for cleaning the sewage of the object. The new technology can significantly improve the quality of wastewater treatment, reduce the volume of river water consumption by double, and reduce the discharge of wastewater into the Oskol River.

The commissioning of the wastewater treatment facility is an ode of key measures to reduce the negative impact on the OEMK environment this year. The cost of implementing the project amounted to 210 million rubles. Metalloinvest company decided to modernize the object after the introduction of the Water Code and the classification of the Oskol River into the highest category of commercial commercial waters, which later led to a more stringent quality requirements for wastewater purification.

Introducing advanced technologies, the company fully complied with new rules that prescribe that the level of fluorine ions should not exceed 0.23 milligrams per cubic decimeter.

Nikolai Shlyakhov, the managing director of the OEMK said that "the water that we are currently dumping cleaner than the water in the river. From the point of view of ecologists, the commissioning of the installation for water purification is a responsible event for the OEMK. The Oskol River is considered a commercial fishing zone and the norms of polluting standards now ten times lower."

Shlyakhov noted that "in addition, the volume of consumption of river water will halved and the volume of wastewater dumped into the river will decrease by 50 percent, as part of the water will return to the production cycle of the plant."
