The second blast furnace was blown out at the Dnieper steel plant

PJSC "DMK" will operate with two blast furnaces after the commissioning of BF No.9 after scheduled repairs and unscheduled downtime.

Blast furnace No. 9 was launched at PJSC "Dneprovsky Metallurgical Plant" (DMK) on Monday, November 25. As reported at the enterprise, on November 24, the raw material was loaded in DP # 9, and today the unit was brought to technological parameters. Since mid-September, the plant has been operating as one of three blast furnaces - No. 1-M.

In July-September, a major overhaul of the second category of DP-9 was carried out, but the furnace was not blown out. Due to a sharp drop in demand for metal and a significant drop in prices for metal products, the plant was forced to temporarily suspend part of its main production facilities - DP-9 was placed in reserve.

“The main goal of blast furnaces when blowing up a blast furnace is to start working out the melting products after a certain melting of the metal charge. Moreover, due to the overrun of the DP-9, the time of the blow-up period increases. We are interested in the state of the heated and movable slag as an indicator that the hearth has collected the required heat, ”commented Evgeny Palaguta, senior master of the blast furnace shop technology, on what is happening.

The first 70 tons of pig iron produced by DP-9 are expected to be received at DMK on November 28.

Blast furnace No. 9 was put into operation in 1952, in October-November 1986, reconstruction was carried out with an increase in useful volume up to 1386 m3, in 2007 - a major overhaul of the first category.
