ArcelorMittal invests in a new sustainable development program in Europe

ArcelorMittal announced plans to roll out a new sustainability program across Europe to ensure ResponsibleSteel certification for all of its ArcelorMittal Europe Flat Products sites. The 12-month program will enable each business to prove that our manufacturing processes meet strictly defined standards across a wide range of social, environmental and governance criteria. The first wave of audit includes sites in Belgium, Germany, Spain and France, followed by others. Following this initial phase, the program will include other ArcelorMittal sites around the world. ResponsibleSteel is the industry's first global multistakeholder standardization and certification initiative dedicated to defining and promoting responsible practices to improve:

Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management water resources and biodiversity Human and labor rights Public Relations and Business Integrity

The standard is based on 12 principles with different criteria and basic requirements. To obtain ResponsibleSteel certification, each facility will undergo rigorous third party audits and an independent certification committee makes the final certification decision.
