Metinvest to invest $1.2 billion in Ukraine in 2022

Metinvest Group plans to invest more than $1.2 billion in the modernization of its enterprises in 2022. This is 18% more capital investments of the previous year.

In 2022, the group will continue the environmental modernization of its enterprises. One of the main projects is the reconstruction of the gas cleaning system in the oxygen-converter shop of Azovstal. New treatment systems are planned to be put into operation in stages during 2022-2023. The reconstruction is expected to be the largest green project in the history of the Group, with an investment of over $180 million.

This year will see the completion of the reconstruction of the gas cleaning units of the foundries and the bunker rack of blast furnace No. 4 and the construction of an air distribution unit at the MMK named after M. Ilyich. In addition, it is planned to replace the gas cleaning system of the Lurgi-552A roasting machine at the Northern GOK.

In 2021, Metinvest completed several major investment projects, including the commissioning of cycle-and-flow technology complexes at the Northern and Ingulets GOKs.

Last year, the Group launched a large-scale project to build a new workshop for the production of cold-rolled steel, galvanized and painted coil at MMK im. Ilyich. The total investment in the project will exceed $1 billion. The project will replace more than 1 million tons of imports with a high-quality domestic product.

Another major environmental project in 2021 is the reconstruction with new construction of gas cleaning plants for foundries and a bunker rack of blast furnace No. 5 at MMK named after M.V. Ilyich.

In 2021, the Group invested not only in its own production. In Mariupol, the construction of Metinvest Polytechnic, the first non-state ultra-modern technical university in Ukraine, has begun. The new university, for the construction and launch of which more than 30 million euros will be allocated, will introduce technologies from leading world manufacturers. Metinvest Polytechnic will become a new standard for quality education, which will be free for Ukrainians.

Over 16 years of operation, Metinvest Group has invested more than $11 billion in the modernization of production. Among the largest investment projects being implemented are the construction of a continuous casting machine No. 4, the reconstruction of the gas cleaning system of the sinter plant and the sheet-rolling state 1700 at the MMK. Ilyich, as well as the modernization of the processing plant of the Central Mining and Processing Plant, which began the production of iron ore concentrate and pellets for the direct iron reduction technology (DRI technology).

Over the 16 years of its operation, Metinvest, together with its associates and joint ventures, has transferred more than UAH 217 billion to the budgets of all levels of Ukraine. tax deductions, of which only in 2021 - a record UAH 52.7 billion. These taxes made it possible to support the economy of the country and the cities where the Group's enterprises operate, weakened by the coronavirus crisis.

Metinvest continues to develop infrastructure in the cities where it operates, renovate hospitals, and invest in education, culture and sports. Social investments of the Group over 16 years have already exceeded UAH 3.4 billion.

Metinvest was one of the first in the country to come to the rescue in the fight against the spread of coronavirus. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Group has allocated more than UAH 280 million for these purposes. Metinvest continues to donate necessary medicines and equipment to hospitals. In hospitals in Mariupol, Zaporozhye, Pokrovsky, Avdiivka and Kryvyi Rih, 6 oxygen stations have been installed, and more than 1,067 oxygen points have been equipped to treat patients with coronavirus. In 2021 alone, Metinvest donated 7.5 thousand tons of oxygen free of charge to more than 110 Ukrainian hospitals in 17 regions of Ukraine.
