ASEAN countries expect Ukrainian-Russian war to have short-term impact on steel trade

The Southeast Asian Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI) commented that the Ukrainian-Russian war could cause trade difficulties for the ASEAN region.

Six ASEAN countries are net importers of semi-finished and finished steel products. Russia is one of the main sources of some semi-finished and finished steel products, especially flat products, while imports from Ukraine to ASEAN have already been reduced to a small amount.

The Ukrainian-Russian war was expected to have little effect on the ASEAN steel trade in the short term, as the two countries are not a major source of imports of semi-finished and finished steel products.
