New CCM with a capacity of 1.6 million tons of slabs per year is being built in Malaysia

Eastern Steel, Malaysia, part of the Jianlong Group, has contracted with Danieli to supply a high-tech slab casting machine that will supply the country with high-quality products that are currently being imported.

In fact, Slab CCM #2 will process a wide range of steel grades, including low carbon automotive grades, API pipeline grades, high strength/low alloy steels and weather grades.

A new curved caster with a radius of 9 m and a metallurgical length of 37 m is currently being designed for installation in Chukai, Terengganu, West Malaysia. with an annual capacity of 1.6 million tons.

The production of such a wide range of slabs will be possible thanks to Danieli Automation's advanced process control system, replicating a set of Danieli 3Q technology packages, including Q-Map, Q-Width, Q-LevelPlus, Q-Cool, Q-Core and Q-Pulse.

The mold will also be equipped with a Danieli Rotelec MM-EMS® multi-mode electromagnetic stirrer to achieve the optimum surface and subsurface slab quality required by end applications.

The launch of the new slab caster is scheduled for early 2023.

This project follows the delivery of another Danieli plant for the production of quality slabs to the Jianlong Group in Shanxi, China.
