A new study from ATK Consulting talks about how artificial intelligence is penetrating a rather conservative industry.
At present, artificial intelligence is not a panacea for mining companies. Solutions built into individual processes can provide up to 5% cost savings in specific areas (for example, in logistics).
Despite the positive effects achieved by industry leaders, it is worth remembering: embedding agents into old systems is difficult, and changing processes is associated with high costs and high risks.
Complete replacement of the value chain for heavy companies industry is premature: no cases of full automation of the entire process “from quarry to client” have been recorded. Artificial intelligence models are not yet sufficiently developed and cannot independently cope with complex tasks and work with solving unpredictable problems over a long distance.
According to analytics, at the current pace of development of artificial intelligence models, industry leaders who have already passed the stages of initiation, prioritization and selection of an AI solution will be able to complete scaling in 2-5 years. Companies just entering the initiation stage - after 5.
