The demand for export transportation and the surplus of maritime infrastructure prevail over the capabilities of the railway. Irina olkhovskaya, General Director of Universal Logistics LLC (managed by JSC Rosterminalugol), spoke about this on the sidelines of the Transport of Russia forum.
The surplus capacity of sea coal terminals alone reaches 55% and amounts to 196 million tons. Of this, the northwestern ports account for 63 million tons, and the Far Eastern ports - 80 million tons. According to forecasts, by 2030 the gap between the transshipment capacity of Russian ports and the available capacity of railways will grow to 232 million tons.
- We are not talking about the need to invest in the development of port infrastructure. Private companies, ports, terminals have already done difficult work, invested hundreds of billions of rubles in the development of port capacities, noted Irina olkhovskaya.
According to the expert, in order to use the already achieved port capacities, it is necessary to increase the current throughput and carrying capacity of railways. Therefore, it is critically important to realize their development, first of all, in the direction of the Far Eastern basin. This is the gateway to the Asia-Pacific region. To those markets that have become the main ones for our country today.
