The initial delivery was made at the ArcelorMittal plant in Gijon in Spain and received at the port in August 2025. It consisted of 3,800 rails of the 60E2 profile of the R260 brand with a length of 25 m each, with a total weight of 5,700 tons.
Further deliveries are planned for 2026, the total volume of rail shipments during the project implementation will reach 33,100 tons.
Designed for heavy cargo and passenger transportation
According to the statement, the rails are designed for an axle load of up to 32.4 tons, which ensures durability, high performance and long-term reliability. The specifications are adapted to the geographical and environmental conditions of the railway corridor.
Strategic role in regional connectivity
A 238-kilometer railway line will connect Sohar in Oman with the UAE national railway network, strengthening trade flows and logistical integration between the two countries. The project is expected to enhance commercial exchange, improve mobility between urban centers, and support Oman's drive to position itself as a regional logistics hub.
Hafeet Rail will develop and operate the line
The railway is being developed by Hafeet Rail, a joint venture the Omani Asyad Group and Etihad Rail from the UAE. After the construction is completed, Hafeet Rail will also be responsible for the operation of the line.
The Oman-UAE railway is expected to play a central role in integrating cross-border transport infrastructure and supporting long-term economic and social development in both countries.
