40 percent of all electricity in Iran produce private companies

40 процентов всей электроэнергии в Иране производят частные компании
According to the Iranian edition of Tehran Times, the country's private sector accounts for 40 percent of the total electricity generation and this figure will soon grow to 60 percent. This was told by correspondents by Deputy Minister of Energy Iran Mohammad Behzad on Sunday June 2.

According to Iran’s Constitution, the sector of the production and distribution of electricity should be privatized, but at the same time, the infrastructure for the transfer of electricity should remain in state property, said Majid Zhozhou, Minister of Energy of Iranian Energy.

Today in Iran it was transferred to the private hands of 18 power plants, and until the end of the Iranian calendar year, ending on March 20, 2014, another 28 units will be sold to investors.

According to Mohammad Bezhad, the main investments in the energy of Iran come from private companies. The advantages of using a private electric power industry for Iran are obvious: in addition to the fact that it is always a flexible system of discounts , this approach to energy guarantees the interest of an investor in development.

In the last calendar year (to March 20, 2013), Iranian energy companies exported 11 billion 54 million kW. The time of electricity to neighboring countries, which is 29 percent higher than the previous period.

The main consumers of Iranian electricity are Türkiye, Armenia, Turkmenistan. Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq. Iran intends to become the largest exporter of electricity of the region and attracted more than 1 billion 100 million US dollars of investment for the construction of three new power plants this year.

By the end of the fifth five -year plan for economic development (until March 2016), Iran plans to increase its energy capacity by 25 Gigavatts, bringing electricity to 73 Gigavatts.
