Shell and NSSMC conduct studies of the pipe 13cr

In recent years, the development of oil and gas fields, as a rule, become more complicated. For pipes and valve , which are used for drilling and transportation of oil and gas, high requirements for corrosion resistance are presented, especially when exposed to liquids containing carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and chloride. Reasonable prices and stability of supplies also play an important role.

The corrosion resistance of the 13CR pipeline was proved in joint R&D programs with Shell, a global group of energy and petrochemical companies. The 13CR pipeline will be more widely used in difficult conditions for transporting oil and gas due to its proven effectiveness. Previously, complete testing was not carried out and it was required to prove the suitability of 13CR in cases where corrosion arose due to the welding process during installation.

Researchers from Shell and NSSMC (Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal) used the most advanced methods of a translucent electron microscope, which made it possible to analyze the microstructure and chemical composition of the S13CR material, proving its suitability after welding.
The results obtained were published and presented at the Nace International conference, confirming that the corrosion characteristics of the 13CR pipeline can be preserved after welding.

NSSMC and Shell have concluded an EFA long -term contract, according to which, NSSMC seeks not only to supply its products in a timely manner, but also to improve the reliability of the product, and contribute to a total reduction in cost, including when installing pipelines on the spot, providing technical solutions regarding optimal heat treatment and welding conditions.
