The Kametstal Metallurgical Plant, a subsidiary of the Ukrainian mining and metallurgical group Metinvest, announced the completion of the reconstruction of continuous casting machine No. 1 (CCM-1) as part of the investment program until 2025. Following the successful implementation of the second phase of the investment project, the key equipment of the pulling-straightening devices has now been upgraded, ensuring stable movement of the workpiece and precise cutting.
This upgrade solves the pressing problem of extending the life of the electric gear motors that ensure the stable operation of the drawing-drawing units. Previously, this equipment failed prematurely due to the destructive effects of high temperatures.
The second stage of reconstruction of SSM-1 was carried out without additional machine downtime, which allowed the plant to maintain the production of commercial ingots for domestic and European consumers.
As a result of the second stage of reconstruction, the enterprise achieved a number of technical and economic benefits:
- multiple extension service life of the electric motors-gearboxes of the stand;
- maximum precision of cutting slabs, reducing metal losses;
- optimization of the removal-straightening operation, which made it possible to reduce the electricity consumption of the upper and lower electric motors-gearboxes by 1.2 kWh with stable casting.
