According to Danieli, the newly installed universal rail mill at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills in Pueblo was designed to achieve an annual production capacity of about 600,000 tons of high-quality rails. The plant will produce both flat-bottomed and thick-walled rail profiles with a unit weight of up to 88 kg per meter.
The technology allows rolling rails up to 100 meters long, supporting modern requirements for railway infrastructure, which are aimed at reducing joints, increasing track stability and reducing maintenance costs during the life cycle.
AREMA-compatible rails for demanding railway applications
Danieli stated that the rails produced at the Pueblo facility will meet AREMA specifications, making them suitable for both heavy-duty freight transport and high-speed rail networks.
The mill is designed to produce rails with hardness levels reaching 425 BHN, providing increased wear resistance and extended service life under high loads and high speeds.
