European officials have fun: they are going to adopt the law that binds the law to dispose of the ships written off in Europe exclusively on the territory of the EU

The Environmental Parliament Environment Committee has submitted today the new rules for the disposal of obsolete marine and river vessels in the European Union. It is reported by Recycling Today.

In the case of the adoption of the relevant law, the European owners of the courts will encounter penalties if they sell their outdated ships for scrap metal to developing countries.

Mr. Karl Slavleter, the author of the bill, said that "today's vote, I hope, will put an end to the reckless sales of the EU to developing countries. Currently, most of our outdated ships are sent to Southeast Asia where they are processed into scrap-rejection of irreparable harm to human health and the environment."

Most of the deputies of the European Parliament share the point of view of Mr. Slavleter and are ready to support this bill.

Meanwhile, the new rules to touch not only European shipowners. Some provisions of the new law can be applied to any vessel who entered the EU port. Thus, the member states of the Union will be required to ensure the presence of a list of dangerous materials located or installed on each vessel in the port. The vessel will have to have an inventory card of such materials and if the verification is set by the state of the ship and inventory data, then a decent fine will be imposed on the shipowner.
